A passenger plane has been completed which can travel 17,446 km using an auxiliary fuel tank, and 18,500 km if the interior upholstery is lightened. This means that you will be able to catch direct flights from Australia to London in England, or to New York in America. I think that from Sydney to London, it takes over 18 or 20 hours of flight time, but do you really think that everyone in Australia is going to want to take such a flight?

For example, for the whole 19 hours or so it takes from Sydney's Kingsford Smith International Airport to London's Heathrow Airport, you wouldn't even be able to get off once. By the time you arrived in London, your hair would be all screwed up, and your skin all crackly. Wouldn't you rather get off once in Singapore or Hong Kong, and then head over to London.

At any rate, if you compare it to two hundred years ago, it's a breeze, for sure.

Yesterday was still hot and humid, but this afternoon there blew a cool breeze that I just sat back and enjoyed. It'd be nice for it to get cooler just like this.

二年前に正月用の飾りとして買った、黒松か赤松さえも分からない松をなんとなく盆栽として植えていたら、今年は暑いせいかハダニが発生して葉が枯れてしまったいたけれど、九月に入ってから新芽がいくつか出ていた。来月に三十路になる自分の気持ちと重ねてみてしまった。はい、そこで一句。

A couple of years back, as a new years decoration, I got this pine tree, without even knowing if it was a black pine or a red pine. I ended up kind of keeping it as a bonsai. This year, in the heat, it had an outbreak of of mites and all the leaves went dry, but since September started a few new buds have appeared. I looked at it once more, with the feelings of one who is about to turn thirty next month. And thus, a poem.

仲良くしている友人から、「世界に日本の面白い技術などについて書いてみれば。。」と誘われ作ってみました。
デジタルは、0と1の配列からなっています。俳句は五七五、短歌は五七五七七の組み合わせからなっています。盆栽は決められた鉢のなかで壮大な空間を作っています。私の考えの中にあるデジタルとは、より自然に近付くことです。私の大好きな飛行機、飛行機エンジン、家電製品、俳句、自分が最新技術だと思うものを書いていこうと思います。それを、Mathieuが英語に翻訳をしてくれます。

I was invited by a good friend who said "Why don't you write to the world about interesting Japanese technology...", and so, I made this.

'Digital' is defined by the arrangements of 0s and 1s. Haiku is made with the combination of 5, 7, 5, and Tanka: 5, 7, 5, 7, 7. Bonsai make a magnificent space for themselves with in a predefined pot.

'Digital', in my thinking, is something that is nearing closer to nature.

I'm going to write about the things I love - Airplanes, Air Engines, House Hold Electronics, Haiku, and also what I think is the latest technology. And Mathieu is going to translate all that into English for me.
